We’ve been making our Designers Gouache since 1935 PRODUCT INFORMATION Winsor & Newton Designer’s Gouache Vibrant, Opaque Matt Finish Winsor & Newton have been producing Designers Gouache since 1935 and to this day we continue to offer the finest artists’ gouache range. Designers Gouache colours are a range of opaque water colours, mainly used by designers, illustrators and commercial artists to create vibrant illustrations in solid colour. Gouache is also widely used in fine art as an opaque watercolour. Today the designer’s Gouache range benefits from significant technological developments and is smoother, flatter, more opaque and more brilliant than ever. A versatile range of gouache paints provides uniform coverage for a vibrant, opaque matt finish. Perfect for students and hobbyists wanting to experiment with creating impactful, vibrant artwork. Features Intermixability – All Designer’s Gouache colours are fully intermixable. Designers Gouache, Professional Water Colour, and Cotman Water Colour can also be fully intermixed. Pigments – The opacity of Designers Gouache is due to the exceptionally high levels of pigmentation in the formulation, which results in both covering power and clean colour mixing. The natural attribute of each pigment adds to the level of opacity and contributes to covering power. Matt Finish – As a result of the high level of pigmentation and the Gum Arabic binder Designer’s Gouache dries to a matt finish. This reduces reflection when photographing gouache artwork. Who Uses Designers Gouache? Designers – Its ease of use, brilliance, quick drying and matt finish make it the most popular designers’ and illustrators’ colour. The opaque matt finish makes for more accurate reproduction at the artwork stage as it minimizes reflections. Fine Artists – Use it in conjunction with watercolour or on its own as opaque watercolour. Its brilliance and opacity give it solidity, excellent for abstract work and extra details. Strong effects also result from the contrast of working on coloured backgrounds which are left partly exposed. Calligraphers – Gouache is used by calligraphers because of its excellent flow, opacity and permanence.
