This is a beautiful Huichol Beaded Pouch Necklace. Handmade and double sided with two Medallions and a pouch in the middle. A lovely Mexican Folk Art collectible and a great gift item! Longer style beaded medallion and beaded on both sides with bright red and green color glass Chaquira beads. Two 2.25″W glass beaded medallions are woven together to form a pouch in the middle with pretty dangles. Each medallion is woven onto dark blue simulated leather and both medallions are woven together with red glass beads to form a pouch. The medallion has a dark green, light green and white color Peyote flower on a black background. In the middle of the flower a larger clear silver bead with black beads delineating the petals. Dark green and light green beads form a circle around the Peyote flower for the symbol of Hope.The medallion is held by a beautiful Huichol red beaded strand with rainbow color insets that match the medallion with 9 dangles made with light orange metallic tube beads and gray pearl tube beads and red Peyote flowers at the tips. The clear metallic silver beads add just the right amount of sparkle. Medallion with dangles: 3.75″L x 2.25″WNecklace strand length: 27.25″LPouch Opening: 2″LOverall drop length: Top of necklace to bottom of dangles: 16.5″L Handmade by a Mexican Huichol Indian from the Sierra Mountains in Jalisco, Mexico. The Huichol are an indigenous Mexican Indian tribe that originally relied on symbols for their written language. Their culture, rich in ceremony and spirituality, create beautiful beaded art necklaces and earrings. Each one of their beaded necklaces takes hours and days of work. One by one, glass beads were added to create this gorgeous medallion necklace. This necklace is 100% authentic Huichol hand crafted jewelry and not the imitation beaded necklace. The mystic spiritual pouch is used by the Huichol to carry seeds that are blessed during the ceremony for successful crops. The story is told that the Huichol Indian, Yuramec, escaped the flood and carried a pouch around his neck to cultivate his new land. The necklace has the Peyote cactus flower symbol is honored by the Shaman leaders for giving influence to the Gods for future crops, rain and healing of the Huichol people.
